Created in 1884 more than 130 years ago, the National Museum of Ancient Art is home to Portugal's largest public collection: paintings, sculptures, jewellery and decorative arts, from Europe, Africa and the Orient.
With more than 40,000 items, the museum's collection features the largest number of works classified by the State as "national treasures". It also includes works from the world's artistic heritage in a variety of domains.
